 Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome to Julia Green Elementary School. We are a Metro/Davidson County Public School and part of the Hillsboro Cluster. For the 2008-2009 school year, the enrollment is approximately 520 students with a 20:1 student/teacher ratio. Julia Green is accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS).
At Julia Green, education is our first priority. Over seventy percent of our faculty has more than ten years teaching experience. Our grade level teachers and related arts teachers (physical education, art, music, and Mandarin) use the academic standards set by the Tennessee Department of Education. Through the dedicated work of our teachers, our school is consistently ranked among the very top schools in both Metro and State TCAP test performance. Julia Green also participates in the ENCORE program for academically gifted children.
Another very unique and impressive aspect of Julia Green is the strength of our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Our PTO has an annual budget of approximately $130,000. The annual budget primarily generates money through a few select fund-raisers such as Invest In Your Child, Read-a-Thon, Fall Carnival and the Silent Auction. The PTO budget funds many educational and support programs at Julia Green. The teachers are also given an annual stipend to use in their classrooms. The PTO also recently bought and installed new playground equipment for our school.
Last, but certainly not least, is the diversity and character that Julia Green strives to develop in each individual child. Each school day begins with the Character Counts Pledge, led by our principal, Eileen Wills. The pledge encourages all students to have responsibility, respect, trustworthiness, care and fairness for everyone.
The attributes of faculty experience, parental involvement and support, along with the development of the well-rounded student, are what sets Julia Green apart from other schools.
