Dear Julia Green families:
I hope you are all having a wonderful, relaxing summer! What a difference a year makes. This time last year, the school was a buzz with construction crews. This summer the campus is quiet. Our faculty and staff are thrilled to not be “moving-in” to their classrooms after the past two years of transition. In less than a month, we will be back at Julia Green for the 2009-2010 school year.
There are many back-to-school activities planned for the beginning of school. I hope you can join us for any or all of them. The more you are involved at Julia Green, the more you and your children benefit from what our great school has to offer!

2:30 p.m. – Kindergarten Orientation
This will be held in the Frist Performance Hall. You will meet your child’s teacher and get a tour of their classroom.
*All new families welcome to attend, although Grades 1-4 will not have teacher assignments until 5 p.m.

The first day of school is a HALF DAY 8:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Brunch will be served in the cafeteria, but kindergarten families and any new families might find it easier on the children to send a snack & a drink.
Friday, August 14, 8:05 a.m. First Day Coffee
Please join me and other PTO members for coffee in the cafeteria after you drop-off your child. There will be plenty of volunteers on hand to help make the first day an easy transition and to answer any questions. Come meet new friends and learn how to get involved in our fabulous PTO!

Friday, August 15, 8:00am - New Parent Breakfast Come to the cafeteria prepared with your questions for seasoned Julia Green parents and meet Dr. Eileen Wills. All are welcome!
Other Information:
This year, we will be sending all pertinent information out electronically via our listserv. If you are not signed up to receive listserv e-mails, please do so. It is an excellent way for you to stay apprised of all things happening at Julia Green while staying “green”. Email Lauren Batte at lebatte@bellsouth.net to add your name to our listserv.
There is a change to our Standard School Attire this year. Children may now wear ANY SOLID COLOR shirts. Shirts must have a collar. Navy, khaki and black shorts, skirts, skorts, or pants are acceptable as bottoms. No Cargo type shorts or pants please. Children grades 2-4 must wear a belt with pants. Please send children to school in tennis shoes for days they have P.E.
A letter containing bus information and other Metro specific information will be mailed to your home sometime in early August.
We encourage you to get involved and be an active participant in your child’s education. You will be surprised at the number of opportunities available for those who choose to become involved.
